Yes. You can fit a mosin nagant in the trunk. I know the answer has been on your minds for quite a while now. May your mind be at ease. (Also....cosmoline! It came straight out of a surplus crate)

Kinja'd!!!

Figured i couldnt pass this up. 150 bucks. Made in 1942. Spent like an hour sorting through a crate of them to find the one that felt the best overall, which was half the fun! There was one 1939, but it had a lot of slop in the action. Regardless, its a cool little piece of history.

I plan on actually taking it out to the range, but not sure what else i should do to it. Thoughts?

I hunt deer with mine, but finding hollow or softpoint in 7.62x54r can be problematic.

Nice find! Mosin prices have skyrocketed in the last year. I bought one for my brother for christmas last year. $100, perfect condition. Now, at gun shows, I see crappy ones that sell for over $150.

Go shoot it! They're insanely fun guns.

did they have any pu rifles ?

Do nothing. Rifle is fine comrade.

I added a slip on recoil pad to mine because my capitalist shoulder cannot into soviet recoil.

Have fun cleaning the cosmoline off. Use mild soap/warm water and just be sure to dry nicely. If you'd like to wipe down the stock, do the same. No harsh chemicals on the fragile finish.

ETA: Just remember, surplus 54r is indeed corrosive.

Well right now I'm wondering if I can fit a MAC-10 in the frunk of a Ford GT.

I once had a 500 as a rental while my car was having body work done. I went shooting, and managed to fit everything, including a 95 Mauser, ar-15, and surplus metal ammo crate.

As far as what else to do, find a safe open space to shoot in rather than a range, and find some fun targets.

Yeah i had heard they skyrocketed. I know good prices were about 100 bucks like you said, so when i saw 150, and this was in mint condition for being so old, decided i should just get it. I wasnt even shopping for this, i intended to get an ar lower... But im a sucker for ww2 stuff so an ar can wait haha.

I have a 1932 Izhevsk M91/30. Excellent rifle. Hell of a history, too. My specific example has a nick from a bullet across the receiver, a bolt from Chatellerault, and the post-war laminated stock strangely has a bloodstain near the front site, likely from some bayonet use....

Good note about the 54r ill make sure to remember that.

Nice! Mine appears to be from the Izhevsk plant as well. I have just breached the surface about the nearly limitless info there is on the mosin rifle. Its crazy how many specific markings there are.
So far, all of my serial number match up. But im trying to figure out some of the other markings around the barrel in the meantime.

just buy old surplus ammo. People call them spam cans occasionally. It's corrosive so cleaning just takes some more time.

Yeah just the surplus soviet stuff in the spamcan like from aimsurplus. Otherwise you can get new production 54r thats non-corrosive.

Heres mine- an Izhevsk 1943 ex-Pu (sniper variant) converted at some point to standard

The stock looks beautiful. Its amazing just how well these have held up! These rifles are like 70 years old! Especially given the circumstances during which they were made. Is that recoil pad just a solid slab of rubber or something?

I would imagine it wouldn't be too hard. There are a lot of fun targets you can use, empty jugs filled with water, produce, soda cans. The possibilities are endless.

Looks better from far away, its not perfect but I'm sure being bathed in cosmoline helped. On the flip side, seems every Chinese type 53 mosin copies are absolutely horrible out of the box.

Its a slip-on soft/squishy rubber recoil pad. A Limbsaver brand Small size.

Nice! Bought mine years ago for $100. For the cosmoline I just took mine apart and put the metal parts in the dishwasher and let the wood sit out in the Dallas sun for a few hours, stuff wiped right off. Make sure you oil it up after the dishwasher!

I can fit one of those in my celica too, but I have to fold the seats down. Bought one at a gun show a couple months ago. The 7.62x54r is powerful. Kicks like a 12g and lots of fun.

haha i tried looking for one! But no luck. But i figure im buying it to use it, not for resale value in 50 years.

Mines got a few knicks and scratches, probably from transport/storing rather than actual use. But its decent.

And thanks, ill look it up and probably order one.

I've carried a MAC-10 in my M Coupe. That's about as big a gun as will fit in the back. I'll bet in the right case it'd fit in the Ford GT.

$150 used to be a CP price for these, but they've started to dry up. I remember when there would be 10-20 in a shop selling for $50-70. I had an M44 we used to plink with. Ungodly loud sight he shorter barrel.

you can't use surplus at most ranges, just a heads up. Tulammo is usually good. It seems to cycle through my mosin pretty well.

Very nice! I have a 1938 Mosin-Nagant, which also was packed full of cosmoline when I got it. It's a cool gun, fun to shoot. I hate to drill into a 75-year-old gun, but I sort of want to put a scope on mine. Maybe I'll just get another (they're cheap enough)...

Depending on how much you shoot, it may be worth your time to pick up some stripper clips for it. It gets time-consuming reloading one at a time if you're hellbent on going through a lot of ammo in a day.

Kinja'd!!! MountainCommand > V12 Jake- Hittin' Switches

time to find that scope and bolt. So i can have my own enemy at the gates replica rifle.

Kinja'd!!! MountainCommand > MM54
01/11/2015 at 19:37

Kinja'd!!!0

Theyre cheap enough for now... Who knows what they will cost in another 5 years. But i figure since mine is probably not from the battle of around stalingrad or anything, ill mod/tweak it to how i want and use it. Rather than just hanging it up on the wall as a show piece. So id say you should get a scope for it. Looks much cooler too.

I should have some stripper clips around somewhere, but ill probably get more anyways.
